Jan Baker, Owner of Jan Baker Yoga

Jan Baker is a qualified Yoga (BWY Dip) and Mindfulness (OMC/Oxford University) teacher living in Buckinghamshire.  She teaches online and in  Haddenham & surrounding villages, offering various styles of yoga to mixed abilities, and a range of mindfulness courses,  all are welcome.  

Yoga has been a constant in my life for more than 25 years,  so I know how beneficial it is for both physical and mental wellbeing, especially at difficult times.  My real passion is Hatha Style Yoga which I teach to mixed ability students of all ages and experience

Firstly, a bit about my background.  It had always been my ambition to train as a yoga teacher and share my passion.  However, my busy HR career in London always seemed to get in the way.  Fortunately moving out of London, in 2015, to the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside provided me the opportunity to pursue my dream.  

Secondly, my qualifications.  Studying the British Wheel of Yoga, a 500 hour Teaching Diploma in Stratford-upon-Avon I subsequently qualified as a Yoga Teacher.  I have since furthered my training by specialising in Gentle Years Yoga for older adults with age related conditions, and aslo become qualified to teach the 10 week yoga for health protocol which is delivered under the Social Prescribing initiative.  I have also completed the Institure of Yoga Sports Scienec Immersion course. Over the years I have practised different styles of yoga, including Iyengar, Astanga and Bickram and have spent time studying in India.  

Yoga is for everyone whatever age, level of fitness or experience, it’s a journey.  So it’s never too late to begin your journey and to feel the benefits and why not give it a go?   I have worked with York University on their research project looking at the benefits of yoga for the over 65’s and am excited, and looking forward  to teaching in care homes this Autumn.

I have practiced meditation for more than 6 years and know how transformational this can be, particularly in difficult times.  I have completed a 12 month mindfulness teacher training course  with the OMC  (part of Oxford University) to enable me to deliver their evidence based mindfulness courses.  I teach the following courses: 3 week introuctory course, 6 week “Finding Peace in a Frantic World”, and an 8 week “MBCT – L course” (Mindfulness for Life).  All courses follow the OMC curriculum and are delivered online and in person.
